Hi there,
I’m Cara Hackett—a social media producer with a passion for local news and engaging online audiences.
I currently work for MLive, Michigan’s largest local news outlet, where I produce newsletters, craft social media posts, dive into platform analytics and create/edit videos.
My passion and drive for sharing underreported stories was cultivated in Florida A&M University’s School of Journalism & Graphic Communication (FAMU) and during graduate school at American University.
While in Washington, D.C., my story coverage ranged from celebrities investing in an Arlington-based food delivery startup to understanding the historical causes of food deserts in the nation’s capital, and how Black farmers are filling these voids in SE DC.
At FAMU, I spent a significant amount of time with our award-winning university newspaper, The Famuan. Working my way up from staff writer to editor-in-chief, I discovered a passion for data-informed reporting and creating innovative strategies to disseminate news.
